Here's a couple of recent jobs that I have completed using my MDX. I welcome any comments. I am and will always be a student of the art of jewelry design; and i enjoy learning new stuff.

Here's a Ring that I used the mill and hand carving skills. Simple design but was made much easier with the mill for the top plate.

Happy Milling

New Pieces

Post by JewelryDoctor » Tue Oct 19, 2004 1:11 pm

Here's a couple new pieces. The pendent was milled in 2 halves and waxed together and the center plate was milled to fit in the center. I noticed that after I took this picture that were some odd spots on the piece. It has since remedied and picked before I shot another photo. The second piece was milled with the center head and shank. I had to cut the channels and the diamonds holes on the sides by hand, but it sure made it easy to incorperate the trillion head with the shank.

Michael

Ken the photo equipment I use is a 795 photo box with surround lighting and a Nikon cool pix 995 fitted with close up lens. I use irfan and photoshop 7.0 as my image editors.

Here's a simple one

Post by JewelryDoctor » Fri Oct 22, 2004 12:39 pm

Not all of the pieces that we mill have to be complex. Sometimes they are a pendant that Grandma has in costume that the kids want to give her in 14k and a nice opal. This was simple to design and milled with the bottom heart frame and opal head together, then the top piece. Had to shape the top piece slightly waxed together and cast. Total time 1.5 hours. Got $75.00 for materials and $200.00 labor. Customers were very happy. If you put all of the available symbols from the board and the FTP site you will have some good hearts to work with.

Hot off the press

Here is the horseshoe ring that I begged the symbol for. The diamond is sightly rectangle princess cut that I squared up with the bezel. The top I milled and the base I carved to match the top. This is for a woman who loves horses...giddiup lil doggie!!!!. Oh BTW I charged $450.00 and she provided all materials.

Hot off the press

Here's one that I am picturing with some of the process that was used in milling. The customer wanted TT so I made the ring entirely in 14k WG then copied the center area and milled and cast in YG. After the 2 were cast I cut out the white heads and the yellow ones fit right into place. This was also a wax that was milled over a tube. With Jeff's (oh thank-you great Yoda) help I was able to create the 3de file to mill. I am enclosing the 3de file for you to see. After this I have a pretty good understanding about milling over a ring tube. i.e. my signet ring design.

Michael

3de file is in 3dengrave forum
